Frequently asked questions about Educational Escape Room
What is an educational escape room?
An educational escape room is a virtual escape game where students answer questions and solve puzzles to unlock objects (padlocks, chests, safes) and escape from a room. Each correct answer brings the group closer to solving the puzzle. It is a form of gamification that turns content review into an immersive, collaborative experience.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is completely free and requires no sign-up or installation. Open the link in any browser and start configuring your escape room in seconds. It works on computer, tablet and smartphone.
Can I load my own questions?
Yes. In settings you can write your own questions with their answer options or short answers. This lets you adapt the escape room to any subject, unit or level. You can also combine custom questions with the included thematic banks.
What thematic banks are included?
8 banks with varied questions: Natural Sciences, History, Mathematics, Literature, Geography, Biology, English and General Culture. Each bank has multiple choice and true/false questions ready to use.
What objects and mechanics can I configure?
You can choose from 10 types of unlockable objects: number lock, letter lock, treasure chest, safe, chained book, sealed map, vial/potion, bolted door, sealed scroll and cipher machine. For questions you can use multiple choice, true/false, short answer and fill in the blank.
How many rooms can the escape room have?
You can configure 1 to 3 rooms. Each room has its own set of questions and objects to unlock. When all questions in a room are completed, the door to the next room opens.
Can it be played in teams?
Yes. You can enable team mode, assign team names, and project the game on the classroom screen. Each team competes to escape first. It also works in individual mode for independent work.
Does it have a timer?
Yes. You can set a time limit of 10, 20 or 30 minutes, or disable the timer if you prefer a no-pressure game. With a timer, more adrenaline and competition between teams is generated.
Can it be used to review before an exam?
It is ideal for that. Load the key questions from the unit to be assessed, configure 2–3 rooms and use it as a unit closing activity. Students review without realizing it, time pressure keeps concentration high, and the collaborative format means those who know more help those who are uncertain.
What pedagogies support the educational escape room?
The educational escape room is grounded in Game-Based Learning, Purposeful Gamification and Cooperative Learning. The escape room structure activates intrinsic motivation, thinking under pressure and team problem-solving.
What competencies does it develop?
The escape game works Critical thinking (analyzing questions to find the correct answer), Logical reasoning (deducing the code from the answers), collaboration (working as a team under time pressure) and Frustration tolerance (managing mistakes without giving up).
How long does an educational escape room session last?
It depends on the configuration. With 1 room and 3 questions it can last 10–15 minutes. With 3 rooms and 5 questions per room, about 30–40 minutes. It is very adaptable to the time available in class. The recommendation is 20–30 minutes for a complete experience with a closing and reflection.
How is it different from other educational games on the site?
The escape room is the most immersive and narrative of the available games. Unlike Educational Hangman or Educational Wordle, which are word-by-word, the escape room has a mission structure: a story, chained rooms, objects to unlock and a clear final goal. It is ideal for longer activities and unit-closing experiences.
